The activities carried out within the framework of the United Colors for an Inclusive Future (2025-1-ES02-KA152-YOU-000297490) project laid the foundation for an impactful learning journey focused on inclusion, empathy, and intercultural understanding. Through a combination of team-building exercises, reflection activities, educational workshops, and cultural exchange, participants took their first steps toward creating a more inclusive society.
One of the first activities brought participants together through a unique exercise centered on dreams, aspirations, and personal stories. By sharing their future goals and supporting one another in finding ways to achieve them, young people began building meaningful connections beyond cultural and geographical differences. This activity encouraged openness, trust, and mutual support while creating an atmosphere where participants felt comfortable expressing themselves and learning from one another.
To help participants adapt to their new environment and better understand the local context, an interactive orientation activity was organized. Participants explored both the venue and the surrounding community while engaging with local residents through questions related to disability awareness and inclusion. This activity not only helped participants become familiar with their surroundings but also provided valuable insights into public perceptions of disability and accessibility.
Personal development was another important focus of the programme. Through reflection-based activities, participants were encouraged to evaluate their expectations, identify their strengths, and set personal learning goals. By documenting their progress throughout the project, they gained a greater awareness of their own development and learning journey. This process also supported self-confidence, self-reflection, and a deeper understanding of their individual contributions to the project.
The programme also introduced participants to the educational opportunities offered by Erasmus+ and the importance of Youthpass as a tool for recognizing learning outcomes. Interactive presentations and group activities helped young people understand how non-formal education contributes to personal and professional development. Participants explored key competencies such as communication, teamwork, initiative-taking, and cultural awareness while learning how these skills can support their future educational and career paths.
Another valuable component of the day focused on project development and active citizenship. Participants worked collaboratively in international teams to design project ideas and explore the fundamentals of project writing. Through this practical experience, they developed problem-solving skills, creativity, and teamwork while gaining confidence in their ability to transform ideas into concrete initiatives that can create positive social impact.
The intercultural dimension of the project was strengthened through a cultural evening dedicated to the host country, Spain. Participants had the opportunity to discover Spanish traditions, music, dances, gastronomy, and cultural heritage in an engaging and interactive environment. Beyond learning about another culture, this experience fostered mutual respect, intercultural dialogue, and appreciation for diversity, which are essential values for building inclusive communities.
Together, these activities created a strong foundation for the days ahead. By encouraging self-expression, intercultural learning, active participation, and awareness of social inclusion, participants began developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to contribute to a more accessible, respectful, and inclusive future for everyone.
