Activities carried out within the framework of the United Colors for an Inclusive Future (2025-1-ES02-KA152-YOU-000297490) project provided participants with valuable opportunities to better understand the experiences of people with disabilities and deepen their awareness of social inclusion. Through study visits, discussions, and non-formal learning activities, young people explored the importance of empathy, equality, and active social responsibility.
The day began with a visit to an organization working in the fields of education, rehabilitation, employment, and social inclusion for people with disabilities. During the visit, participants learned about the challenges disabled individuals face in their daily lives as well as the initiatives designed to support their participation in society. Beyond gaining theoretical knowledge, participants had the opportunity to interact directly with people with disabilities, listen to their experiences, and learn about their achievements, aspirations, and personal journeys. This experience encouraged participants to develop a deeper sense of empathy and a more informed perspective on equality and inclusion.
The programme continued with a documentary screening that focused on the barriers and discrimination often encountered by people with disabilities. Through the story presented in the documentary, participants reflected on the impact of stereotypes, prejudice, and social exclusion. The activity encouraged critical thinking about the ways in which society can unintentionally create obstacles for individuals with disabilities and highlighted the importance of equal opportunities for all.
Following the documentary, participants took part in collaborative workshops aimed at identifying challenges faced by people with disabilities and proposing practical solutions. Working in international groups, they analyzed issues related to education, employment, accessibility, and participation in social life. By discussing causes, consequences, and possible solutions, participants strengthened their teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The exchange of perspectives from different countries also allowed them to compare approaches and explore solutions from a broader international perspective.
These discussions helped participants recognize that disability is not only an individual issue but also a societal one. They reflected on the role of communities, institutions, and individuals in removing barriers and creating more inclusive environments. As a result, participants developed ideas and initiatives that they could implement in their own communities to promote greater awareness, accessibility, and social inclusion.
The day concluded with an intercultural evening dedicated to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Participants explored the country's traditions, cultural heritage, music, dances, and cuisine while engaging in meaningful cultural exchange. This experience strengthened mutual understanding, encouraged intercultural dialogue, and highlighted the value of cultural diversity as an essential component of inclusive societies.
Through these activities, participants enhanced their understanding of disability-related issues while developing important competencies such as empathy, active citizenship, intercultural communication, teamwork, and social responsibility. The experiences gained throughout the day further reinforced the project's mission of promoting equality, inclusion, and respect for diversity, while empowering young people to become advocates for positive social change in their communities.
